Goat Meat

  • History of Goat Meat:   The boer goat is native to South Africa and has been developed specially for production of healthy low cholesterol, lean meat and is completely different in appearance form the established dairy goat.  Over the last 20 years they have been introduced to Britain and their meat is increasingly popular.  Goat meat is believed to actually make up 80% of the total meat consumed in the world. 
  • Goat Meat is Low Fat:   The actual flavour is best descibed as a cross between lamb, beef and venison, but it is much leaner than many other meats.  It is for example 50-65% lower in fat than similarly prepared beef, but has a comparable protein content.  Goat meat is low in fat yet high in protein and iron (see table below), the ideal product for the health conscious.    
  • Goat Meat Cuts:   Joints are similar to those cuts taken from lamb and therefore have taken the lamb names for joints
